What is RSS?
The RSS concept
The traditional way to keep track of blogs is to visit them one-by-one and check for updates. This can get can take forever if you follow several blogs every day. RSS solves that problem.
Almost every blog is equipped with an RSS Feed, which is updated whenever that blog is updated. You simply add this RSS Feed to your RSS Reader. An RSS Reader is an application very much like your email inbox. Every time any of your favorite blogs is updated, you receive that new blog post in your RSS Reader (just like you get new email). You don’t need to visit your blogs manually any more.
How to use RSS
Getting started should take you no more than two minutes. Here’s a detailed step-by-step guide to adding this website’s RSS Feed to your RSS Reader.
First, you need to find the RSS Feed for your blog or website. When you visit www.rahulgaitonde.org, look for the RSS Feed icon, like in this screenshot:

Next, you copy the location of the RSS feed, like in the screenshot below (for Firefox on the left and Internet Explorer on the right). Right-click on the “Subscribe via RSS” link and click on “Copy”.

Next, you add the RSS Feed to your RSS Reader. I strongly recommend Google Reader. Visit www.google.com/reader . Click on the “Add Subscription” link on the left, as in the screenshot below:

In the box that pops up, right-click and choose “Paste” as below:

When you click on “Add”, you’ll see a list of the latest blog posts, as below.

Click on any one to read. Any time a new post appears on www.rahulgaitonde.org, it will be available in your Google Reader list. Visit Google Reader’s excellent Help Center for more information on using Reader.
