This fascinating, interactive graph by the New York Times is the result of a 2008 study by the American Time Use Survey which had thousands of Americans track activities on an average day.
9PM really is prime-time. As much as 40% of the population is watching TV or a movie at that time. Also noted: At 12 noon, 12% of all Americans are eating. That figure jumps to 17% by 12:10. By those calculations, 15 million people sit down to lunch in that ten-minute interval.
