Amazon’s CEO has now offered to replace, for free, electronic copies of George Orwell’s “1984” and “Animal Farm“ that Amazon had remotely deleted from its customers’ Kindles in July.
Commentators had been quick to point out the irony in Amazon’s Big-Brother-like actions when it deleted copies of Animal Farm. The deletion of the e-book had also rendered useless a 17-year-old student’s bookmarks, comments and annotations for a school project.
